George Delagrammatikas

Professor of the Practice in the Thomas Lord Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science

George Delagrammatikas joined Duke University in January 2020 as Assistant Chair and Director of Master's Studies.  As a Professor of the Practice, he focuses on establishing and promoting high-impact educational opportunities for MEMS students in both graduate and undergraduate courses.  George brings expertise in design thinking, hands-on learning environments, automotive engineering, and design optimization.

His research is linked directly to in-class activities.  Samples of this work can be found in the Master of Science capstone course: ME 555 - Experiment Design and Research Methods (https://sites.duke.edu/memscapstone/).

George has been committed to STEM outreach and initiated the Duke Summer STEM Academy in 2022 in order to expose rising juniors and seniors in high school to the process of engineering design through real-world application to problems of societal importance (https://sites.duke.edu/summerstem/).

Competitive undergraduate racing has been an interest of George's since his college days on a solar car team that raced across the United States.  He brings his love for racing to his position as faculty advisor to the Duke Motorsports Team where he teaches students about engineering design, systems thinking, and project management.

George currently manages the External Advisory Board for the MEMS Department and works with industry to bring projects and research to the Department.
